...1886... Many people were lost when high seas from a hurricane inundated the area near Sabine, Texas.

...1903... The "Heppner Disaster" occurred in Oregon. A cloudburst in the hills sent a flood down Willow Creek, and a twenty foot wall of water swept away a third of the town in minutes, killing 236 residents and causing 100 million dollars damage.

...1912... The low temperature at Newport, Rhode Island fell to 45 degrees, breaking the record of 47 degrees set in 1904.

...1956... At Newport, Rhode Island the high temperature peaked at 92 degrees, breaking the record of 85 degrees set in 1945.

...1961... The temperature in Downtown San Francisco CA soared to 106 degrees to establish an all-time record for that location.

...1985... Very cool weather in the East resulted in several new daily record low temperatures. At Raleigh, north Carolina, the mercury dropped to 46 degrees, not only breaking the daily minimum but also is the coolest temperature for so late in spring.

...1987... Thirty-two cities in the central U.S. reported record high temperatures for the date. The high of 97 degrees at Flint MI tied their record for June, and the high of 101 at Milwaukee WI marked their first 100 degree reading in 32 years. Thunderstorms brought much needed rains to South Texas, drenching McAllen with 3.2 inches in one hour. A thunderstorm soaked the town of Uncertain with 2.3 inches of rain in one hour.

...1988... Thirty cities in the eastern U.S. reported record high temperatures for the date.

...1989... Thunderstorms developing ahead of a cold front produced severe weather from the Central Gulf States to the Middle Atlantic Coast Region during the day and into the night. There were 62 reports of large hail and damaging winds. Thunderstorm winds caused 28 million dollars damage in Montgomery County MD.

...1990... 4 inches of rain in about 75 minutes created a wall of water 10 to 30 feet high that devastated Shadyside, Ohio. 24 people were killed. One person reported ankle-deep water running down the side of a hill when he was seeking higher ground.

...1998... .94 inches of rain fell in one hour at Newport, Rhode Island, setting the record high for the date; the previous high was .54 inches set in 1958.  Atlantic, Iowa recorded 13.18 inches of rain in 24 hours, the state's all-time 24 hour rainfall record.

...2000... San Francisco, California soared to 103 degrees to tie its all-time record high temperature. San Jose, California set a new all-time record high temperature with 109 degrees.

...2005... At Newport, Rhode Island the dew point rose to 74 degrees, breaking the record of 72 degrees set in 2001 and the heat index peaked at 96 degrees, breaking the record of 95 degrees that was set back in 1956.
